airbag light

hi, the airbag light in our 97 tracer is always flicking on and off all the time while the car is on, whats wrong? the car hasnt been in an accident at all, so i dont know what would be wrong with the airbag. I know there was a recall on something to do with the airbags and i had that fixxed, and the light was still on...i dont know what it is, any ideas?

if this helps, the airbag light flashes 5 times then pauses, 5 times, then pauses....i dunno if that means anything..

This is an airbag code 55. Your dealer can tell you what that means or check up Ford airbag codes on the net. Self diagnosing system. My 97 Escort has done this in cold weather. It always goes away!

It may not go away. You need to take your car to an authorized dealer to have your airbag system checked. A malfunctioning system can cause the bag to go off spontaneously. In which case, you can't sue because your light came on and you should have known better than to drive it without getting it checked out.

Jet-Lee is right driving with an air bag light on is un safe. If you get pulled over and a cop sees it you can get fined and have your car towed because its not safe. (I'm from Canada. It maybe different in the U.S. I don't know)
