Heating problems

I'm having problems with my 1993 GMC Safari van. When i turn on my truck and start driving the heat seems to start shortly and then it stops and doesn't come back on unless i turn on the fan where it will begin heating for about 10 seconds again and then it stops. I cured the heating problem on my 98 Safari by changing the clutch fan. Talk to a mechanic and find out how to test it. Hope this helps.
