new exhaust.. modification/rattling issues

well i get my new ansa axleback, it sounds just awesome and its not loud, but smooth as hell, and i love it and everything ..

but...

the tip is out just a tad too far for my liking, gives a kinda cheap look to it, so i'd like to get about an inch or two cut out of the piping just before the tip to shorten it so that it sits closer to my car and will look so much better. the thing is, the entire part is powder coated black, aside from the tip which is stainless and chrome. would it tear up the coating when it gets cut and hafta get all redone? how much would a shop likely charge me to have that done? (im in canada too, so keep in mind the currency so i dont hafta ask)

also.. the tone the exhaust makes is great and everything, but i get the odd rattle and it just ruins the smooth sound. i looked in the archives and found little specific info, basically it could be the heat shields or the cat from what i've read. also, i had a guy i know do it for me while i was at work so i didnt get to see him do it, but he didnt use my new gasket that i bought, and he also left out the springs that are used where the new exhaust bolts up to the stock pipes, instead he put washers in... so i think my first option is to get it done.. well.. properly i guess, and see if that eliminates the rattle.

i know the axleback seems all "rice" and everything but if you heard how my stock one was, you'd really respect my decision to just get it replaces asap, and i just dont have the cash for a high end catback, so spare me those kind of comment please.

Take it to a custom muffler shop. They won't charge you very much to cut that part off before the tip. They'll also re-bolt it up with the proper hangers so it doesn't rattle. They may laugh at your friend's work but you can just say you didn't do it. Also, bring the new gaskets and spring things with you. If they're good, they'll probably inspect the whole exhaust piping.

sorry, no pics. i think i may have a stone in one of my heat shields, either that or its loose or something.. i dunno, i was thinking i'd just get them all cut off cuz they're just a pain in the ass with the little rattles now and then.

i cant use my cam cuz i lost the cable to connect it to my computer, but i'll get my brother's and do it some time. its nothing too fancy, but its sure unique with the black powder coating. i've had many compliments already, so its good.

i'll get pics as soon as i can. i'd say you'd appreciate it more if you heard it, cuz it looks a bit cheap sticking out like it does. its not bad, but i'll hafta just tweak it a bit to get it a bit cleaner looking. having the black muffler is just awesome though. once in a while i just turn off the music to listen to it cuz its so smooth, i wish i could record the sound for you guys, its so nice, not loud, just smooth and sporty as hell.

all thanks to 4G4D!
