Look closely at the DPFE sensor. Ford extended the warranty to 5 years 50,000 miles on some 2001 and 2002 vehicles on this part. It is a rectangular box that has 2 vacuum lines and a wiring connector on it. Good luck and let us know the results.

This Sensor Is The One With A Cap Like A Pill Bottle Right Thats What The Book Shows. Anyway I Took It Off Got The Cap Off Blew It Out Cant Really Tell If Anything Is Wrong. What year do you have? The sensor you are describing is the EGR vent solenoid. It releases vacuum to allow the EGR to close. If it is newer than 96, the DPFE is a rectangular box that has 2 rubber lines going to it and a wiring connector that has 3 wires.

the truck is an 01 i will go look at the rectangular box but what am i looking for on that sensor will there be any test or just replace it

FOUND the dpfe sensor but cant tell anything cleaned out airline openings took off back saw electrical stuff covered in jelly looked perfect is there a test

Install vacuum pump in the line on top of EGR. And a voltmeter in the signal return wire on the DPFE. With key on, engine off, there should be somewhere around .68v. As yiu slowly increase vacuum it should go up to around 4.5v
