i have a 2001 honda civic and i had it in storage at my cottage for the past year. I am pretty sure the gas in it is no good so i want to siphon it out.. i tryed to just use a hose but it seems like something is blocking it from getting to the gas. I was wondering if there is a filter or soemthign else that would be in the way? and is there any other way that is fairly simple to get the gas out?

ya, take the tank out and drain it

put some octane booster/stabalizer in the tank. Also, is it full of fuel? partially? Top off whatever you can with premium. You should be fine and not have to worry about draining the tank.

Drill a hole in the bottom of the tank and let it drain out then plug it with some duct tape (not really, you'll ruin your tank) are you syphoning it properly? are you sucking on the tube to get it flowing?

there is probable a saftey device that prevents people from siphoning gas... that way no one can steal it.

Lots of times, there are too many bends and turns in the filler tupe to allow a siphon hose down there.

Sometimes, you can start a siphon by pulling off the tube at the fuel filer and sucking on it, if it, like many cars, is under the back seat.

However, I regularly have let vehicles sit for a year, 2 or even 3 years and have had NO trouble using the gas in the tank.
Once, I bought a 1967 Lincoln that had been undriven for twenty years! Being the cheap bastard that I am, I siphoned the gas tank and used the gas, with no problems.

So just fill the tank up and drive it. You should be fine.
