tranny problems

just today i noticed that the tranny shifts are very soft and about twice as long as usual. i checked the fluid level and it seems to be good. i also noticed that the speedometer has about a 1 sec delay, for example i am stoped at a light and when i begin to acellerate the speedo stays a zero of about a second, it has been doing the speedo delay for a while now but the shifting problems just started today. i'm wondering if it might be a sensor or something. if anyone has had this problem or has any sugestions they would be greatly appreciated.
