Got a 1998 Caravan w/ power windows. Both windows have stopped working at the same time(coincidence???). At first I had a problem w/ the windows occasionally not working. there's power to the switches. there's power up to the motors. i've ran direct power to the motor itself and nothing. everything points to the motor....however...both motors(motor & regulator) have been replaced about 3 months ago. the passenger side has been replaced twice w/ a new motor & reg. when they did work...they worked just fine...no binding or anything. could there be something that's burnin these motors out. i thought that's what the ptc's are there for? any help would be great...i've been racking my brain over this for awhile.

well...i think i found the problem. i took apart the cover to the motor winding (2 philip screws). pull out the winding and cleaned off the contacts and the winding's contact surface. fixed the problem. so if anyone of you have a prob w/ the window...and you've narrowed it down to the motor...try cleaning the contact and the contact surface before replacing the motor. i was able to remove the cover w/out having to remove the entire motor from the door panel. hope this helps anyone w/ this prob.

Wanted to mention that on my '95 with power windows, the copper braided wires that connect the brushes to the terminals were routed so that they caught at the back of the brush guides and kept the brushes from advancing to the commutator as they wore. Pulling the wires up so that they were no longer caught on the brush guides was an easy fix.

I had some problems with the passenger window on my 95 GC. I took the panel off the door and simply found the cables were not plugged in to the switch securely. My wife was just about to take to the shop.

I tried cleaning the motor contacts as you recommended in the passenger side power window and it WORKED! Thanks for your advice!
