Does anyone know what year/car model GM AM/FM/CD players will fit into a '94 GA? I have taken the dash apart once to try swapping an old Fiero stereo w/ EQ, but no dice. The factory set-up has two small studs on top of the radio holding it in behind the fascia. I was told by some one whom I meant to purchase the desired CD player from that it HAS TO BE from a '94 Grand Am. This doesn't sound right to me (esp. since the dude wanted to charge an extra $30 for a "correct" unit.)
Also, if there are interchangeable units, what kind of (hopefully minor) mods need to be done?
Thanks!

That's not true, a lot of times the mounting brackets that are on the radio unit can be changed. Take a look at your original unit and see if they can be removed, then look at the replacement, the brackets may also be removed. I recently put the CD unit from a 98 Montana in to my 96 GAGT, All I ended up doing was putting screws into the 98 bracket holes which made new holes in the plastic the unit held fine and they are covered by the dash cover.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Like Hoags says, most GM units mount into most other GM rides, with a bit of thought and adaptation of the mounting areas. Radio Shack has some good universal install kits, [brackets, ahngers, etc.] that may help out.
