Rear hatch will not open when I push the switch

On my 95 Safari the rear hatch won't pop open when I hit the switch on dash or the button on the keyless entry, I can hear the barn style doors activators but not the activator for the hatch. I exposed the rods through the interior handle and check the activator and it is free not seized up or anything, I put an AMP meter on it and no power reading when either button is pushed, I've checked the fuses-ok, tried another module from a wrecker -same thing. What I did notice is that the solenoids on the window struts is when I push down the sleeve on the right side I can hear an activation in the bottom right door but when I push down on the left sleeve strut there is no sound of any activation. Does that solenoid control anything? Please help - going crazy. Thanks
