I have a 1988 454 and the alternator isnt charging I replaced the alternator and put the new one in and it isnt charging either. I had it tested and the new one shows okay on the tester.
Is there anyway to determine if theres a relay or fuse.
Thanks in advance for any help
Jeff

Trace the big wire from the back of the alternator to the battery area connection. Probably find a short section of different colored wire that is a fusible link, designed to burn out before doing any real damage to the vehicle. This can be just cut out and replaced with regular heavy wire if it is bad. Older cars didn't have this anyway. Just pull on the section of wire and see if the insulation stretches out where the wire is broken - or try a jumper from the alt. to the battery + terminal.
