O2 Sensor Question

Is there anything that can make the O2 sensor go bad? If so, can you please tell me because I just purchased an O2 from the dealership 3 months ago and it is bad already.

What year and model and how many miles on it?

As you know, anything you that you can buy could be bad when you buy it.
But you have to give model and year. :2cents:

Thanks for the additional info. Now maybe someone can weigh in.
There are 2. Did you have the 02 sensor before the CAT convertor or after the CAT convertor replaced?

I had the O2 sensor in bank 1 replaced and it is the same one that is causing me problems now. The one you can reach by on top of the engine

I'm not 100% sure but the dealer should have put in an AC Delco 02 sensor (forward) (PN: AFS-109) or something like that. Can you verify that? Not uncommon to have them go bad again. If its a Bosch brand...can it.

The forward 02 sensor is what the FI system depends on via the ECM in closed loop mode. Do you have the original CAT convertor?

Might want to consider getting an odb-ii scan for DTC error codes. Is your SES light on or off?

Maybe someone else should weigh in too. KustomKid54 are u there?

I have the orginal Cat system
The SES light is on, but when I got the diagnostic test it said O2 sensor/bank 1, which was already replaced. Also the dealership gave me the bosch.

A Bosch?? It figures. They have a high failure rate. Try the AC Delco 02 sensor (AFS-109) and your problem will probably be fixed.

I would be interested to know what you find out. I have the same problem. Not a Bosch sensor either. Recently replaced the O2 sensor in front of the CAT and cleared the code. Was fine for a couple of weeks, but the SES light came back on. Tune-up shop said the car needed a tune-up (duh!, NOT!) and that it would solve the problem. Cables & plugs are new, there was some minor corrosion on the coil wire contacts, but I don't think that would cause the O2 code to go off again.

Just out of curiosity what was the odb-ii DTC error code?

Yeah I am back
I didn't bother to even go to the dealer because I was waiting until I got some free time. Just the other day I started the car and the Engine Service Soon light turn off and has not came on since. Do anyone knows what can cause this to happen?

From what I understand, if the code hasn't been kicked on for whatever set off the SES light initially, after 10 starts it goes out automatically.

Bnaylor3400, turned out the CAT on my GP is plugged and two if the coils are going bad. I suspected it was the CAT, but had to get it confirmed. Thanks for the input.

Quick update. Got the CAT replaced and the performance of the engine is like night and day. It has far more power than before and no codes are being set off. WooooHooo!! I will still replace the coils as I am detecting the engine seems to miss a little in idle. Thanks for all the help and advice.
