GM recalls more than 2M vehicles

DETROIT (CNN/Money) - General Motors Corp. is recalling more than 2 million vehicles, mostly sold in the United States, on a variety of potential safety defects, the company said Monday.

GM said it knew of no injuries incurred due to any of these potential defects, but that it was aware of two minor crashes.

GM (down $0.40 to $26.34, Research) shares fell in early Monday trading.

GM, the world's largest automaker, said the largest of the recalls includes nearly 1.5 million pickup trucks and sport/utility vehicles with second-row seat belts that may be difficult to properly position across passengers' hips.

The possible seatbelt defect affects Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, Suburban, Tahoe and Avalanche vehicles from the 2003-2005 model years.

It also affects Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, GMC Sierra Crew Cab, Yukon XL, Yukon and Hummer H2 autos from the same model years.

Dealers will repair the safety belts for free, the company said in a statement.

GM also announced a safety recall for more than 330,000 Chevrolet Suburban, 1500 Series, and Yukon XL from the 2000-2001 model years for possible overheating of fuel pump wires that could lead to engine problems.

More than 142,000 1500 Series 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierra pickups were also recalled, along with 2500/3500 Series 2001-2004 manual transmission pickups, on potential parking brake problems.

Buick Lacrosse and Buick Allure 2005 models were recalled for possible brake problems.

2004 model year Buick Rendezvous and Pontiac Azteks were recalled for ignition issues and Saturn L Series Wagons from 2002-2004 model years were recalled for non-compliance issues.

I wonder if this get's you a new fuel pump? If so, it sucks for me as I don't have an XL.

As I'm the second owner of my Yukon, how does GM know where to send any recall information? Is there a spot on the GM website that I can update thier information?

Thanks!

not to worry, GM finds you thru your state DMV registrations. I'm the second owner of a 97 Lumina, and they have contacted me for recalls by mail. My brother who also is a second owner of a Lumina, has also been contacted for recalls. I'll be waiting for my letter for my Yukon XL.

Ha, when I go there to check on my trucks ('03 YXL and '04 DXL), under "Recalls" it says "Temporarily not available"...
