Coolent Issue

When I bought my car last year, i noticed that there was never any coolent in the resivoir. When I filled it up, it leaked all over the place because there is a hole where the tank slides onto the metal bracket. Hard to explain, but trust me. Went to Mitshi dealer, and they said a new tank would cost $50. No way. I took some clay stuff I found at autozone to patch it up, and it worked for awhile. Actually held up for the whole year. I noticed the other day, the car was running bad, bad idle, kinda slow accleration, and just rough feeling. Temp seemed ok. I then noticed there was a big puddle of coolent, and found out I had to fix it. So i did, filled it up with alot of it, and the car runs great now.

Would a lack of coolent really affect performance that much? The thing runs perfectly now. Anyone selling a resovoir?

I would suggest using some JBWeld or higher temp silicone on the hole if at all possible... yes lower coolant can effect performance but only to an extent... depends on how low it is.... when your engine/coolant heats up it expands and uses the reservoir to hold excess but when it cools down it draws it back in.... when it gets to the reservoir and leaks out there is nothing to draw back in and it just keeps losing coolant slowly... or quickly...

Check some junk yards.... there's gotta be at least on or two dsm's sitting... i'm pretty sure that the reservoir isn't a highly sought after item.....

Tried that. No DSMs in this neighborhood. The clay stuff seems to be holding again. No leaks, so it seems ok for now. Still running smooth also.
