i was wondering if there is any better year or year(s) i should avoid on the 'ludes. i have a chevy now :icon16: but i've been wanting a prelude for some time. i especially like the bodystyle between 93 and 96 (2nd gen?) also, how much is a decent price for one of these?

Any lude is a good lude in my mind. The style you're refering to is a 4th gen, from 92-96. I don't think that 92 had the vtec trim, which is by far the best, so I guess you might want to avoid a 92, for that reason only. As far as price, it'll change with mileage and the condition it's in, so I'd check kelly blue book for a reference.

The fastest year is 93, due to that being the lightest for some reason. Of course the weight difference is pretty much neglible because of the driver differences. But in a world where everyone drives perfectly it would beat the others.

4th gen is the best looking IMO - and the VTEC was the best package offered during those years. I've always heard that 94 was the best year (lightest?), but have never seen any numbers or other proof, that's just what I've heard. One thing for certain, 96 is the year they went to OBDII, which means you'd have to convert to OBDI to do any serious mods.

Ha, well to combine what Gohan Ryu and Prelude707 said, I heard that the 93 and 94 were the two best, and the two fastest. As far as looks, I was originally looking at 5th gens before I found my 4th gen, and now I'm partial to the 4th gens, mostly because I have one, so the looks are, as with any other styling, a matter of preferance.

i have a 92, runs well no problems,, only downside is not a vtec. I'm almost at 50 k miles, just make sure ifyou get an auto(which you probally dont want) to get the trans fluid changed periodically.

it's pretty much guaranteed that i'll be getting an auto since i can't really drive a manual that well. if i get an automatic, vtec won't really matter will it?

Get a manual and learn how to drive it - you'll be glad you did (better performance, better gas mileage, less maintenance and more fun to drive). VTEC makes a big difference, auto or manual.

when i bought my 94 si 5-speed i had no idea how to drive a stickshift, i learned it very easily and i am extremly glad i did, infact i now HATE driving automatic cars... its worth it trust me, especially if you want performance.

get a stickshift, why ells would you have a lude??
my friend has a 92 SH (H22A1). this thing powns most cars around hear. sounds nice, runs nice.

find modles and the engine codes that go with them. this should also help you make up your mind.
for a decent lude you should have about $7,000 or more.

When I bought my prelude i had no clue on how to drive a manual tranny. I had no one to drive it home so I either learned or walked back home. It doesnt take more than ten minutes to learn the take off. Just dont give up. You will be glad you didnt.

Just so you know exman, there's no such thing as a 92 SH, the SH was a model trim only offered on 97 and up models, and they (the 92) didn't come with vtec, unless he did a swap with a USDM engine. And for $7000, you should be able to find a very nice 4th gen vtec. I payed $7800 for my 94, and it had full h22a engine and tranny swap, full coilovers and struts, along with a few other goodies, and the thing is in immaculate condition, low miles on the body and everything. I'd say average price for a 4th gen, depending on the trim, is around $4500-$5000, give or take.

yeah i think around here the average price is 4 - 5k. i'm not so worried about if the exterior isn't perfect or if the inside has some wear and tear cuz it's all getting changed anyway...but i guess 4K is a good price

I remembered wrong...93 is the fastest/lightest, not 94. Last year I paid $8000 for a 96 VTEC in perfect stock condition - a little high but worth it to me.

$8000??!! i paid that for my cavalier 8 yrs ago (it was 3 yrs old). hondas do cost more for a reason i guess, u don't see as many of them on the side of the highway

i paid $2k for my 93 h23 and lucking up tremendously with a $2k engine swap out of a 2001 lude that only had 5k miles on it i have $4k in my car and only 10k miles now. So do some looking around and if you find a lude in good exterior condition and a messed up engine i wouldnt hesitate in buying b/c remember that you can get a good swap JDM or USDM anywhere from $1500 to $2500 depending on mileage.
