I've got a pedestrian '00 Mitsubishi Mirage, which I was performing a tune up on. I changed the air filter and spark plugs, but when it came to the air filter I got stuck. I removed my back seat and disconnected the fuel pump harness under the cover, but when I waited for my car to shut off from lack of fuel pressure it ran for about an hour! (at least close to it) Am I missing something. My car doesn't seem to have a fuse I can remove which regualtaes it, so when I go to change the fuel filter, I don't get gas squirted in my eye. Anybody know of a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

HI there. I am a owner of a Mitsubishi Mirage 2000 as well. I just recently replaced my fuel filter. I was amazed to hear that you had unhooked your fuel pump. All I did is ~make sure the car is off~ then unhook the fuel filter. When you unhook it from the bottom nut on the fuel line, there will be a small amout of fuel that will leak out so I would rap your hards or were som gloves for that. I usure you this methood will work fine. This is the second time I have done this job with no danger.

i just joined so forgive this being rather late, but:
in the hayes manual it says the fuel pump fuse is located under the car near the connected side of the fuel tank.
in my cars however (94/95) it's actually inside the rear passenger compartment. you remove the bottom seat cushion, and attached to the metal of the car are a few (3 in my case) wire harnesses. the lower one will have four wires on one side and only three coming out the other. it has a grey plastic clip that slides off, then the wiring and connector assembly come out from underneath the plastic cover strip that's bolted on.
