93 C-1500 4.3 4L60-e trouble code help

The truck:
1993 Chevy 1500 W/T
4.3L V6
4L60-e 4 speed auto
Approx 80,000 miles

Heres the problem:

Driving down the road truck starts to stumble smoke and die, the check engine light came on also. Tried to restart and it sounds like it wants to start. Let it sit for 15 minutes and try to start it will if you floor the gas pedal. Drives fine for about 10 minutes. After that it begins to stumble and bellow out black smoke, then dies. We did this 2 times to try to limp it home. Finally called a tow truck to bring it home.

Checked fluids and everything looked and smelled normal. Guages showed good oil pressure when running and temperature stayed normal. I never looked at the volt guage.

I jumped the connectors to the computer to pull the codes.

15- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor High
66- 3-2 Control Solenoid Circuit Fault
67- Torque Converter Clutch( TCC) Solenoid Circuit Fault

I don't understand how the tranny can cause the engine to smoke like that. Even this morning when it was cold it fired right up without touching the gas pedal, but when you tried to rev it up it stumbled a bit before it revved.

Any clue on what caused these DTCs and how to fix them?

I found a TSB stating that the ignition switch could be the problem. I 'm just looking for some other opinions. I don't have alot of money to dump into it right now so I'm hoping it is not something serious.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

What speed were you going when it began? If the TCC is applying at too low of a speed, it could cause that.

When it first started about 35mph. Trying to limp it home I never went over 20-25mph.

I'd say the TCC is just staying on then. Did it die at stops?

It started to die as I was moving, the engine started to sputter and the truck came to a stop becasue no power to keep moving. I popped it into neutral when it started to bog down, but that didn't help either...still died. Once it dies it will not start for atleast 15min, cranks and sounds like its trying to start but it won't catch...park or neutral.

Turned out being a bad coolant temperature sensor...replace and now it runs great.
