Does it do it when you have a full tank of gas? Or just when you are down under 1/2 - 1/4 of a tank? If it is only when you're kinda low on gas that is normal and there isn't much you can do about it besides fill it up.

im guessing u have an older camaro same thing happens on my 85 but its not that hard to figure out where u should be on the gas in the mornings it will show u what ur at when u start it up and u should be able to know how much gas u use driving around that day just don't let it get to low other wise you'll screw it all up and be stuck on the side of the road

No, he has a '94. It happens on mine too but like I said it's probably because you're around 1/4 tank and the gas is sloshing around in the tank which causes the sensor to read different amounts of gas depending on the angle of the car. If you are worried about running out of gas either fill up everytime you hit a 1/4 tank or fill it up once and set the trip odometer and find out how far you can go about before you run out of gas, then just never push it that far again.

Yeah I got a 95 and mine does it too. It's pretty annoying. I actually calculated it once.. When my gauge read 3/4 full, it took me 6 something gallons to fill all the way up. So, I had a little over half a tank left when my gauge read 3/4 full. I never trust that thing, whenever it reads 1/2 full I always fill her up. And yeah, if the tanks not completely full and I take a turn or put on the brakes, the gauge goes down slightly then goes back up. My friends Grand Am does it too. It's weird, but you get used to it.

Its been two weeks now since I filled up. I filled up when gas was 2.18, im thinking HOLY SH*T thats a bargin. Anyway, the next day it goes to 2.06, then the next day 2.03. It stays 2.03 for a while. Once that gas price hit 2.06, I started driving my firebird like gas wasnt an issue. Do you know that I still have over a half of a tank of gas left?
GAH IMA DRIVE HER LIKE I STOLE HER EVERY DAY.
ps: I drive her an average of 30 miles a weekday, and 10 a weekend day.

It's because of the gas splashing around. In... 99 or 00 (cant remember the exact year) they switched to an electronic sensor and apparently fixed the problem

Man, you're lucky. I'm averaging around 17 miles per gallon, and that's keeping my foot light on the pedal. It sucks, but I know it's probably because it's needing a tune up w/ new plugs and etc. btw, gas here is down to $2.14 right now, which is pretty cheap compared to the $2.30 that it was.

Psh you are all wusses. Its 2.70 for me. Thats 87 octane too. well over 3 for the 91. Thats the highest they sell in my neck of the woods. No 92 or +
Edit: And my gas gauge does the same thing.

So we are wusses because we don't pay as much for gas as you do? I'm confused, I would just say we're lucky...

=P Well if you complain about gas prices (not justifying or denying your finiancial situation) compared to mine, I say yer wussies. Lucky wussies. =)

ok, I am willing to accept that. Since gas here is only 2.00 I will agree that I am a lucky wussy.

=) Hehe. They said that the gas prices have 'averaged out' if you goto an airport in SoCal expect nothing lower then 3.50 for 87.

Me ... I dont even go by my gas guage in my 95 cause even if your on empty and put like 5 dollars in it will go to 3/4. It works like its suppose to when it says empty your empty and when it reads full your full. I guess what I'm saying is learn to read your tripometer.

Dude, happens all the time. My car when i just put $10 in(about 4gallons) damn says it on a half of tank, then it movesback and forth from e to 1/2 slowly. Also when you're on hills it tends to move all over.

gas gauges have read like that for years. it's pretty common, just be careful not to run it dry.

God only knows how many times that happened :banghead: . That can't be to good for the motor now, can it?

It's not too hard on stuff, the main thing is the fuel filter. But it's still not a good thing to do to anything really.
