There is suspition my exhaust manaifold flex joint failure is due to one or more bad engine mounts. Anyone have experience with which mounts fail and can you check them w/o total removal? I see a front and a back mount as well as one on top of the engine. There appear to also be mounts at each corner of the sub frame.

Hey Ned!!!
My Volvo 480 Turbo has one slightly worn mount, luckily not the rear engine mount.Hence,I know how to check for excess wear.If you cannot physically see the mounts in question, try having an assistant rev the engine while you observe the amount of "rock" from the unit.
If it is more than about 3 inches,I'd take it to a specialist and show them your concern. If they are worth their salt whey'll tell you if you have anything to worry about. You could always ask at www.volvoclub.uk.org It our UK Volvo Owners Club Site.Simon Linton does the 800/V70 stuff here :-) Steve. :)
