one thing after another...lemon maybe?

Hi, I'm a "newbie" so please bear with me. I purchased a 2002 with 37000 K on it 6 months ago. In the first month, she was in the garage 4 times about the brakes. Then the interior light took a life of its own and only came on when it wanted to (press on the brake, the interior light comes on) and it won't go off sometimes ( I have to take the bulb out). The brake lights went, (apparently the cavaliers are known for it) so I replaced the two sockets and bulbs. Now, I have a funny, rubbery rattle in the dash where the air bag is and a hissing noise that goes along with it. Any ideas? Is she still working out kinks? Did I buy a lemon?

Well I don't think it would qualify as a lemon, since the care is driveable. But I can relate to your problems. I have a 2003 Coupe and I get enough noise from the dashboard to drive me absolutely insane. If it is still covered under the warranty definetly take it to your dealer and have him look at it. As for the brake lights, they are notorious for burning out. There was a recall for the rear lights which you should probably get looked at. Get the VIN of your vehicle and contact your Chevy dealer or GM.

I was considering purchasing an extended warranty. If you need your car to last you longer then consider this, it may cost a little but you will have security and peace of mind. I would rather pay a $100 deductable instead of $3000 for a new transmission.

okay. im not sure about the lemon status but i would get that possible airbag problem checked out. Also, the light is probably due to loose wiring somewhere.

Its a cavalier... welcome to owning one.

I'd seriously question the garage you are going to. I've seen them down-right sabotage vehicles. The fact that you had to take it to the same place 4 times for brakes says a lot. Find someone who works on cars "on the side" or learn to DIY with a Chiltons or Haynes manual.

I'm with deadBird on this one. Get far far away from the mechs that did the work for you. I'd even venture to say it's time you had an authorized dealer do a complete inspection, just for safety's sake. Get a detailed P/O of the results too.
If you do something now, and it is indeed a lemon, you could save yourself from the bitter ending...........(geez)
