copper headgasket

well now that its installed.my car is still starting up all kinds of shitty, like it was before it was installed, so my question is are copper headgaskets more prone to leaking,and if so why do people use them/i pay 80$ for one,a friends dad who is a mechanic told me that they tend to leak, which is why im asking all of this
