replacing control arm bushings

Well I just started replacing my bushings on this hatch I just got and I got the main part of the bushing out(with a hammer and a flat head hours of fun) and now im just wondering if there is a way of getting the little bits of rubber off the control arm. Yes I should of used a torch or machine press but im trying to do this as cheap as possible with all the other things that need to be done. Thanks any info will be useful

You will have to have the new ones pressed in.....I have some arms for a civic with energy suspension bushings already pressed in them for sale. 0 miles on them I went to something different.

No I wont have to have them pressed in I just have to get a hack saw to take out the metal liner and not scrape of the rubber, then I can just put the new ones in with a rubber mallet and some grease. Took me a little bit to find my answer.

I had my both bushings replaced on my lower control arms. I meant one bushing on each side. You need to take out the ENTIRE bushing with the metal housing and everything. I have tried so many things to take it out. Dont screw around with that. Take them to a shop and have them pressed out and in. I paid 13 dollars for each bushing to be taken out and put back in. $26 was my total. Took 15 min for the process. Trying to hammer and bash the things in and out will ruin the perfect circle that the bushing housing is sitting in. Grease and rubber mallot? Not the coolest idea. Do not take the arms to a auto shop, as they will try to charge you 40 to 60 dollars to take them out and put them in. Go to whitepages.com and look up "Machine shop" in your area and call them all. Machine shops will charge anywhere from $10-$20 to have them replaced. They use these machines every day and of course they wouldn't mind just doing a small job like that. Thats how I got it for $13 bucks for each one. The center of the bushing is longer than the housing itself. You're going to en up mashing the center and breaking the rubber. After putting everything back together on my car I needed a desparate alignment. Ever since, my car has been perfect. When my bushings were damaged (1 on each side broke), every time I'd slow down, I would hear the WORST grinding/metal+metal sound.

energy suspension bushing kits can be pressed in by hand. factory bushings need to be pressed out w/ a press; sleeve, bushing, and collar all together. yes u can beat the crap out of the bushing and then cut out the collar w/ a hacksaw blade, or burn the bushing out first. Howver, you're taking u'r life, and anyone elses who rides in u'r car afterward, into u'r hands when u go the cheap route one suspension, steering, and especially brakes.
do as E Honda mentioned and don't be half-assed when it comes to those 3 vital areas of the car.

yeah i guess all the other people i talked to just happened to get lucky, and i researched this question on different forums and and alot more than four ppl went the do it yourself rout with no problems. Life and death with putting in bushings? lol you should of drove this car right before and when did i ever say that i went the cheap rout on my car for anything else. I can see were problems could happen but im not bashing the hell out of my control arm with no regard to my parts. My sleaves are out and there is not damage to them for you information and its funny how you say E Honda that the only way is with a press.... o by the way I have some parts for sale you want to buy them?

I can see were problems could happen but im not bashing the hell out of my control arm with no regard to my parts. In this case I swapped the stock arms in favor of some billet aluminum ones. Which left me with the stock arms with new energy suspension bushings in them Should you have acted right and took some friendly educated advice you prob could have gotten these arms with the bushings already in them for less than you would have spent on stock bushing and pressing them in. But you won't need to worry with it. You have all the answers and money....So go on with ya bad self.
Just a thought. ......I bet ya never see Hirimoto pounding in bushings in the honda plant. Why not.....would save millions in machinery.

Thats great too bad I didn’t pay too get them pressed in and comparing how I got my bushings out too a mass producing company wow you sure taught me a lesson. If I even bought your parts then I would be wasting money on the energy suspension bushings I have.

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but I need some clarification regarding bushings. For the front lower control arm there are 2 bushings (inner and outer), correct? I'm guessing the inner bushing is the one closest to the inside of the car at the front (front pivot bolt) and the outer is the one at the rear (rear pivot stud)? I'm going by the diagram in a Haynes manual (just so you know).
I've got a bushing bad (movement where the arm mounts to the body) and want to make sure I get the right bushing. I'm not really interested in performance as this is just a daily driver to get to and from work.
