im new to standard and am afraid of destroyign my car. what happens if i switch gears at too low an rpm, or if i travel at a low speed using a high gear? will it put a big strain on my engine or harm my transmission at all?

if you switch gears too low, you will stall and have to restart
if you travel in higher gear you use less gas, and its not a terrible strain on your engine, thats what the stand tranny is really for, being able to control your RPMs. If you want acceleration, travel in low gear, but for better MPG, travel in high gear.
