stereo wiring problem

Hello,
I'm new to my trooper and to this forum. I would like to install a new stereo in my 89 trooper. I bought it without the stereo and all the wires were cut. In other words all I have is a bunch of wires for the stereo coming out from under the dash (prev owner told me they were for the stereo) Can someone with an 89 trooper check out their wiring and then tell me which color is the power and which is the ground? Does anyone have any any other solution?

Also related: I was messing around with the wires and the stereo last night and now the interier gage lights don't work. I did replace the blown fuse. The lights still don't work. Did I ruin something else too?

Thanks for your help,
Dan

Dont know about the 89 but on most cars yellow is the power. black is the ground and the rest are for the speakers.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I had this happen the other night. The original wiring harness doesn't have a ground wire, but there is a dimmer wire that can be mistaken for ground. If it is shorted to ground when you turn on the lights, the tail light / dash light fuse will blow. I don't remember the wire colors but it's not hard to figure out. Four pairs go off to the speakers and can easily be traced, then the remaining wires are +12v constant, +12v switched, and dimmer.
