parking brake problems

I just installed parking break kit (new shoes, adj. star, boot, lever, hardware, ect.) It's better than it used to be but it still won't hold on a steep driveway in neutral. Has anybody else experienced this? Maybe the drum inside rotor is worn out and oversized or maybe I should try turning adjustment star out some so the shoe drags a little. What really sucks is you have to take off wheel, caliper and rotor just to get to the star. Any thoughts?

I don't mean to state the obvious, but did you make sure the cable is tight enough. Sometimes it can streach with a lot of use, and then it will not fully engage the parking brake.

I believe my Haynes repair manual says to adjust the park brake shoe out to where it just drags the drum when you try to put it back on, and then just back it off a little for clearance. I agree, it is a pain in the ass to adjust.

After adjusting to snug fit on drum reinstall, try backing up several times and using heavy braking to stop. they should self adjust themselves for a tighter fit, allowing better pk/brk.

cable seems tight enough, I even adjusted it all the way out.

I think backing up for break adjust is for drum systems only not the combo of disc /parking break shoe.
