Aftermarket Shift Knob

I have a Momo Wood Aftermarket shift knob and love the feel of the wood when shifting. However, this is one of those universal shift knobs which relies on a nylon sleeve and three screws to grip the sleeve.
I also have a short throw shifter but don't suspect that that is the problem.

After a while, the knob get loose, I suppose that the threads wear thru the nylon sleeve, and it rocks back and forth when I shift.

Are there any nice shift knobs which are a direct fit? Or, is it possible to epoxy a threaded sleeve inside of my shift knob, and then use the standard threads to screw down on the shifter?

What size are the threads on the shift knob, and where could I buy a threaded sleeve (will probably need to add a nut under the sleeve to position and tighten the knob).

fill the hole in the knob with fiberglass resin or JB weld. after it hardens, drill and tap it out to the correct size and thread pitch for your shifer threads.
A friend of mine did this on his camaro and it worked great.

I have heard of people cutting down old busted shift knobs and jamming the threaded portion into universal style knobs so they screw on like stock. If you dont want to ruin your stock knob you could go to a junkyard and yank the knob off of a DSM or about any mitsubishi 5 speed to use.

Good thought, that just might work. Pardon my ignorance, but what did you mean by the term DSM?

DSM= Talons, Lasers, and Eclipses mainly.

DSM also means diamond star motors I think, and that was pretty much a partnership between mopar and mitsubishi, which like stealthee said deals mainly with talons, eclipses, and lasers

i have the same problem, i have a momo shift nob and boot, screws start getting loose like every 3 months on me. since its not a big deal i just tighten them back up and go about my way.
but try stealthee's idea, might work

Yeah I could of been more clear.:p DSM is Diamond Star Motors like mentioned and had a plant in Normal, Illinois where Talons, Lasers, Eclipses, Sebrings, Stratus, Cirrus, Avengers, and Galants were all built. I may have missed a few but you get the point.

Also if anyone ever tried to tell you that your 3000 or Stealth is a DSM tell them they are full of it. They will argue because its made from a partnership of Dodge and Mitsubishi that that makes it a DSM. Ask them if they know where it was built.;) If its not built in Normal its not a DSM. Our cars were all built in Nagoya, Japan.
