ok here it goes me and a friend of mine dropped in another tranny. We got everything completed and then when we went to drive it the clutch simply wasnt grabbing not at all. so bad that if i parked on a hill it would roll even if in gear. one of the things we did was took the transfer case out and the drive shaft as well since i cant afford a new one right now, (making it front wheel drive). it would move but just creep cause of no grab it could wrap out and not go anywhere. Other things were that i installed a new stage 2 clutch and fidanza lightweight flywheel. please give me any and all reasons this maybe. and quick please. cause we may just tear it back down tomorrow.

it's your clutch. either not installed correctly or busted. mine did the same thing when my clutch blew into pieces..

Nope, you have fried your VCU, and now you need a new tranny. These cars will not work if you take off the transfercase and driveshaft. It may move around for a little while until the vcu gets so hot that it fries.

You now need to spend 800-1000 on a VCU if you can find one, which last I heard are not avalible unless you buy a whole tranny with it in there.

When I first read this I thought you installed a tranny from a FWD. But after rereading it I have to agree with talskinyguy. The only way to properly make the AWD tranny FWD is to weld the planetary gears(I beleive, I never researched it that much as the project isnt of much interest to me since I dont plan on a FWD TT). If you really do want to use it as FWD only you still have that option as the VCU does not need to be good for FWD only. IF you need a good VCU try finding one of the guys on 3si that is going to use the Getrag in a FWD and have a good VCU to swap with. I recently helped someone remove the VCU from his TT and we swapped the bad one and some cash with a frined of mine who is going FWD TT for his good VCU.

well what is a vcu anyways but whatever it is i seriously doubt that would be the problem due to you saying that i may be able to drive it around for a little bit cause i barely drove it out of the garage

Your car is not designed to move at all if the driveshaft is removed, the fact that you got it out of the garage is impressive. You can choose not to listen to me if you want but its the VCU.

The VCU is the viscous coupling unit. It is what "locks" when you can have wheel spin in the front or rear to provide you with AWD traction. If you remove 1/2 of the AWD then its your rear wheels are constantly doing sitting on ice. The VCU works by heating up until it "locks" the front and rear together, but if one end just keeps spinning it will keep heating up until it pops, when that happens the liquid / goo inside leaks out into your tranny and the VCU ceases to work, basicly making your tanny an open differential to no where.

ok so i have another vcu no clue how to change it but how quickly could this happen and would it cause my clutch not to grab at all cause even parked on a hill it would roll backwards

You need to pull the trans and open it up. Not quite sure hot to verifiy that its bad. However, do not swap in a good VCU unless you are going to hook up your a working tcase and the driveshaft, or you will just fry the new one.

I think www.stealth316.com has instructions.

You actually can pull the VCU with the tranny still in the car. Its not super difficult but involves some know how.
