I have been battling with my 97 ford taurus for about 6 months now.
It initially started with my check engine soon light coming on sporadically. I took it in and they said that I shouldn't really worry about it until it stays on. I let it go and then a computor sensor went out on it and I had to take it back in. Days after getting the sensor fixed, the light went back on so I took it back in.
This time an emissions code came up on diagnostics. They said it could either be the catalytic converter or spark plugs or a vacuum leak or O2 sensor.
The CAT got checked and they said that it was OK. They fixed the vacuum leaks, spark plugs and flushed the transmission fluid for good measures.
A day after this the same code came back up. The mechanic who was a really nice guy was frustrated and said that it might be the intake manifold gasket, which I have not fixed.
With the exceptiion of when the computor chip went out, my car has ran great.
This morning when I was driving into work, my radio shut off when I shifted the car into reverse. And on the was home, it is turning off more frequently. The radio itself doesn't lose power, but it is like someone just temporarily disconects the speakers. It is a new symptom and was wondering if this could relate to the check engine soon light coming on?
I want to wait to spend more money on the car until it is actually showing symptoms.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Take the car to a parts store like Advance Auto parts to have the computer codes read for free, then let us know what codes you are getting. Sometimes, the places you take it too to have a code fixed, they don't know squat about it and are just guessing. Good luck.

I had the same problem. Replace the neutral switch. It costs $25 at Autozone.
