Anti-Theft and Keyless Remote ???

Hi. I just bought a used 2003 Grand Prix. I was only given one chip key and no keyless remotes. I bought a factory remote from a website that I could program, but when I took out the the Prog Mall fuse and tried programming it following the steps, it still doesn't work. I also noticed that when I hit the lock button down 2 times and it chimes like setting the theft-deterrant system, the red light only blinks once or twice and when the doors are closed it does not blink again. Am I to assume that the theft-deterrant system was disconnected or changed and that I need to check this wiring to hook it back up again so that works as well as the keyless remote? (maybe an aftermarket alarm had been installed and then the dealer I bought it from disconnected it??) And, if so, could someone walk me through what I will need to do....I'm not too familiar with car wiring, but I know I would rather learn than take it to a shop and have them charge me up the butt to do stuff that may not necessarily need to be done. Never mind. I figured it out....I had the key in the wrong position when I was trying to program the remote, and the theft deterrant system was contingent on the remote lock. I just can't believe the dealership wanted to charge me $160 for the transmitters and programming them when I was able to order this remote for $26 and do it myself. Well, I can believe it, but it just makes me sick at how much money they try to scrape from us laymen. :banghead:
