Hey guys, I really want to buy an MR2. I have 1000 saved up + my current car for which i might be able to get about $5000. So When I buy the MR2 I will sell my current car right after.
okay, I am really undecided for which model I should go for. I really love the tinyness (if thats a word) of the MK1 Supercharged and I hear it is an awesome handling car. But I also heard that the MK2 Turbo is MUCH faster than the MK1 Supercharged ( is it really that much faster????). So This is a tuffy.
I want this car to be my daily driver and occasional street/drag races.
*How much do the Supercharged models go for?
*If I buy a MK1 Supercharged for about $4000, and put in about $1000 in it performance-wise, would I be able to outrun a MK2 in 0-60 and 1/4 then?
*What Mods would you suggest with $1000 budget?
*Would I be able to get about or less than 6seconds for 0-60 with that money put into performance upgrades.
Please dont say do a 3sgte swap, b/c it will cost me much and I dont think there are many car shops that would really know how to do it, and I dont trust some random shop that says they can do it when they really dont know how to do it.

the easiest fix, go test drive one of each to find out which you like more.
a mk2 turbo will still be the faster of the two.

the 4agze is the supercharged engine... they came in a mk1
the pully and cams depend on size, are you willing to sacrifice top or bottom end to gain the other?
and an intake doesn't help nearly as much as a tuned exhaust...
the MK2 turbo is a faster car in a straight line. Handling might go to the MK1, but it depends on driver.

if you don't have a whole lot of cash and want a straight-line performer than can carve corners then get an mk2...the mk1 is a great car with decent acceleration, but you seem to want a car that can beat your friend's ford probe gt, v6 mustang, sentra se-r or some other sport compact/ low-end sports car...
with the mk1 you'll be able to take on the slower variants of most popular cars...along with some mid-range cars, but any car with much balls will leave you in the straights. unless you swap in a different engine or invest in some parts it will always be a car more about handling and balance than wheel-spinning fun. also the supercharged models are getting relatively rare (read expensive) and thus an mk2 turbo seems like a better option.
definitely try both out though and if an mk1 is what you really want, then buy it and eventually build it up to be a great straight-line. you can always add performance to a slow car that looks great, but it's much harder to make an ugly car look good. choose what looks better and feels better to you.
