So I was driving back home from work and when coming to a red light at about 10MPH the engine just died on me. The only thing left on was the radio. So I try to start it again and nothing. The check engine did not light up. This is for a 93 Grand Cherokee 4.0. with 145,000 miles on it.
Thank you very much.

Hi, you say it would not start again. Do you mean the engine turns over but will not run. Check at the coil wire to see if you have spark. Dale [email protected]

So I put some starting fluid in the throttle body and the jeep started and then it died on me once more. Mechanic came over yesterday and he had a( 0 PSI )for the reading on the fuel pressure. He said it could be the fuel pump that is bad or that it got stuck. He is going to drop the fuel tank to check out the pump. And I was also reading some posts here about the ( CPS ). Do you think the CPS has something to do with the jeep just shutting off by itself ?

First, check ALL of your fuses. When you turn the key into the on position, no you hear the hum from the fuel pump? Check all the little things first.

Well, if you get it to start with starting fluid, then it isn't the CPS. CPS would eliminate spark, not fuel.

MX52NV is right...check fuses, ASD relay etc prior to droping the tank.

IF IT STARTS WITH STARTING FLUID ,YOU HAVE A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. CHECK VOLTAGE AT TANK WITH MULTI METER. SHOULD HAVE 12 VOLTS FOR 3-4 SECONDS WHEN YOU TURN KEY ON. ALSO CHECK TO SEE IF YOU CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP RELAY CLICK WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON. HOPE THIS HELPS DALE

When mine died a few weeks ago, I replaced the coil and CPS just for it to end up being one of those tiny fuses. So start will the small stuff like fuses and voltage testing.

Checked all fuses and they are all good. There is no hum for the fuel pump. I'm guessing it is a fuel related problem. Thank you for pointing out the CPS for me, and eliminating the thought that the CPS could be bad. Mechanic is coming over today to drop the tank. I will post back on what the problem was.

Thanks.

Mechanic came over and the fuel pump is bad. Checked around for prices and 224.00 was the lowest I could find with Lifetime warranty. One more question, should I also change the Fuel Filter ? I bought the jeep in February of 2002 and I have never changed it.

Thanks

Wouldn't hurt.

I would change the filter. There are 2 Grands at the salvage yard I could grab a fuel pump out of if you want to try that route to save money.

Thanks for the offer MX. Just left the Jeep at the shop. They are going to replace the pump and put in a new filter. Everything for about $300.00.
