Hi,
this is a custom fabrication job and will cost you quite a bit. The body is different.
I had a 95 suburban with the tailgate and am a whole lot happier with my 01 Yukon XL with the liftgate.
No more reaching over the gate to get to anything and the spare tire is where it belongs: under the body.
It does not interfere with my camping trailer.
It is like barn doors on the old body style without the blocked view.
Plus you do not lose the wiper / washer.
Take care, Eggert :bananasmi

Would it really be that much trouble on an 1987. I would think that there would not be so much difference.

Hi beta, I am not a body shop person, you may want to ask a body shop for an estimate.
