Difficult to Upgrade to Power?

If one wanted to upgrade to power windows AND mirrors from only power locks what would it require; I know you'd have to get the armrest switches or entirely new door panels (to elimate holes or plugs where the manual cranks were).
Are actuator and motor assemblies bolted or rivited in?
Is the harness for the mirrors, and door switches already located in the door?
Also what about the power rearview mirrors and overhead consoles, is the harness already located under the head liner?

Good questions. Anyone? I also want to add the autodimming rear view mirror with compass and temp. I have an overhead console. Anyone know if the harness plug is there for the option?

now don't hold me to it but i'm thinkin if you have the overhead console you should have the harness... as for the pwr windows there is a company called electric life... they make pwr accesories for trucks and cars... i am thinking on doing the same thing. the buttons cover up the hole left by the defunked handle and it looks bitchin... check it out

I have seen power window regulators for older tucks that actually retain the manual handle and you just press is slightly up or slightly down to operate the windows

You could just go buy a couple of doors with power equipment from a junkyard, though.

I was just thinking I would buy the door innards and panels. I dont think I could even just get the power switches due to the fact that I've got the cheap door panels where the entire armrest comes off rather than just the switches. Mainly I was just wondering if I'd have to run wires or if they'd be in there. It'd be simpler on me cause I wouldn't have to paint the doors. My truck is a custom color. Thanks for all the input.

I don't know if this helps Brandon, but I just popped my overhead console off to figure out how to add air gages for my onboard air and air bags. I tugged in a small harness that I saw through the hole in the headliner, and an electrical plug is on the end for the powered rearview mirror with the compass in it that I happen to have at home.
Can't answer for what may or may not be inside the doors though.

I've also installed these mirrors in vehicles that never came with them. You can buy the plug and short harness separately from the dealer and run your own wires to power source.

Cool, figured I could do that. What about the overhead consoles.. how do those things mount up in there anyway? Anything have to be attached to the roof under the headliner?

Yeah. There are holes in the headliner, and slots in the sheetmetal in the rear. You hook the tabs in the rear then slide it rearward, locking into the slots. Then there's a single screw in the front holding it up. Maybe find one in a salvage yard?
Have a good weekend!

Sorry for hijacking this rather old post but several people here have mentioned removing the overhead console and perhaps you could help.
I bought a long console for my 2001 Silverado. I have cut the headliner for the rear slots, to clear the front and for the front mounting hole. It fits up there nice. My problem is with the front bolt/screw. My truck just has a hole about 3/4" by 1/2". Nothing threated to screw into. Does anyone know what should be there. Perhaps a plastic block similar (but larger) than used to hold a license plate? Or is there some sort of swivel fitting on the console itself that you tighten up?
Your help is much appreciated.

My '02 has a stamped steel retainer that clips in the sheet metal to accept the forward console screw.
