Jdm 3s-gte

I've found some pretty decent JDM engines from MR2s and my engine=gone. Any pitfalls that anyone knows about on them? Wouldn't there be a tranny problem b/t the celica and the MR2 3S-GTE? I'm only speculating. What's the normal price on a JDM engine?

Aside from that, any suggestions? Thanks much.

you won't pass emissions if there is a visual inspection, you'll need to run higher octane gas unless you buy a standalone ECU...
there shouldn't be too much of an issue with swapping it into another 3sgte's place.

i paid around 1600 shipped for mine.

Alright... I'm buying a JDM engine. I don't need to pass emissions. I can run a higher octane. Why not? I'm paying my firstborn son to Exxon every time I fill up... OK, what about the Intercooler? Can I still have it side mounted? For some reason, I swear I remember seeing a top-mount intercooler on one of those things. I dont' want that.

Thanks a ton.

if you get a halfcut or rear clip from a j-spec MR2, you'll have everything you need. the IC was in the same location, and the top mounted intercoolers came off of the celica alltrac. though, you can always use it as an excuse to get a new, better IC. ;)

got a JDM turbo.
don't think you'll have probs with fuel, i run mine on premium and it makes a a slight difference but between the ECU adjusting itself and your first tune up you won't have any worries. Premium here is 96-98 in japan its like 102.. the USA uses a different scale just to be difficult.
I/C is exactly the same.
Get the third gen JDM engine if you get a clip cause it's better. although it might make getting parts harder in the states so you might want to bear that in mind and go with the second gen '89-92 engine. cause i don't think the states got the later engine. in fact the 2nd gen engine should run of your old ECU... makin the rest of the emissions stuff an exhaust thing.

premium here is like... 91

in japan they use RON, and 100-102 there translates to something like 94 or 96 here.

if you plan on modifying the engine, the 3rd gen is no better than the second, and you might have a few problems with some upgrades (fuel/ecu/etc). if you are just going to swap them out, go with the 3rd gen.

depends how much you want to mod.

3rd gen compression ratio is different
no MAF..uses MAP and MAT instead.
valve shims are different (easier to adjust on 2nd gen more reliable on 3rd gen)
ports were revised on third gen too.
