Christian Metal.....?

Ok, now im not trying to get into any religious things here, but I love these new Christian Metal bands: Mortal Treason, As I Lay Dying, Underoath, Haste The Day, Norma Jean......they just seem to keep popping up everywhere

Now ive always been into rock/ metal music....and most of it has been all bout evil, anger, hate...which is awesome, its what got me into heavy music in the first place and needs to be expressed. Its just good to hear some kick ass music with a positive message, and have it be so fuckin good. Im just amazed at how it can be so brutal and have it come out of love. I just always thought people who were all about jesus were like....hippies. I have been proven wrong. Keep it comming.

Mods... if you feel like this is going to cause any problems please lock or remove this thread.

^Love 'em. It's good to find some real hard music that, like u said, a poaitive message, just something new! Personally, I like Blindside and Project 86 as some hard bands, but yeah, Underoath is awesome.

Christian Metal seems like an oxymoron to me.

But I liked creed, does that count?

Creed is neither Christian nor Metal...sorry.

And how is Chrsitian metal an oxymoran??? Metal is a form of music. Music is a sound. Christian is a form of...well, lyrics? Anyway, it's not an oxymoron.

An oxymoron would probably be more like Christian Black metal.

www.goodfight.org this guy seems to think so

I meant it as a joke, I appologize.

Every christian I've ever meet attacks metal, rock, rap, [real] R&B, country - any contemporary music - saying it's the work of the devil, and metal is satan's music, and it rots your brain and blah blah blah this, blah blah blah that, you know the stereotypical, cliche bullshit to attack music that's been going around since Elivis Presely.

A friend of mine was saying how a lady at his church burnt over 100 rock CD's because of the "type" it suggested, satanic bullshit some churches throw at you to voice their personal opinion that they don't like Metallica, or Black Sabbath. She couldn't even sell the CD's because that would be "encouraging satan to other people" and "opening other people up to satan's work"

what the shit?

If you took offence at that (anyone here, not you damo man) fuck you.

I'll d/l some of songs of the bands you guys said, cheers.

Yeah, I really get annoyed with that. Close-minded jerks. Those are what my friends and I like to call "misinformed" christians. Seriously, My roomate and I have so much metal on our computers and we don't consider ourselves "of the devil",you should see how much metal music is on the campus of a christian university. So, next time a self-proclaimed christian says you're of the devil or your music is of the devil (unless it really is satanic music), tell him "Judge not lest ye be judged."

Yeah good point, but I've read over the website I posted in the last one quite a bit, and he's quick to point out there is a passage in the bible that says "let he who is sin free cast the first stone" or whatever, basically saying "We go to church and our sins are forgiven we can judge who ever, for whatever we want"

I could understand them getting upset with Slayer, or Marilyn Manson of the like, but as far as I'm concerned, Music is art, anyform, it's art. Art is expression, true or false. It's open to interpretation of the view (or in this case the listener), and does not specifically point one thing, and can mean the other.

On topic, what are some good songs I can download from some of these bands?

Thanks Davo, but yeah, I love metal! I love all forms of rock from Elvis to Unearth to Led Zepplin to Chevelle. Idl how to do one of those range things, but I love ROCK!!!

Aniwho, the reason I quoted you...to explain that passage is to show, Jesus had a sense of humor. More reason to love Him 'cause he was sarcastic too! :D No one is free of sin therefore no one has a right to cast the first stone.

As for Slayer and MArilyn Manson...like the former but not the latter. And Damo huh? w00t I thought I it couldn't get shorter, but it did

i'm not religious at all, and yet Underoath is one of my top 3 favorite bands. for me it's not about the message but the music itself. i saw them live last night, and it was the best show i've ever been to. they played with The Chariot, another Christian act. they were pretty good too.

but what annoys me is what my friend does. he's like "oh Underoath is good, but i don't like them because they're Christian. i don't like being preached to."

so what t-shirt did he wear to the show the other night?

a Norma Jean shirt. wait a minute...aren't they christian too?

I absolutely love blasting a christian metal CD at the youth group I volunteer at while I clean up the sound equipment. So much of the music we play there is more "friendly" music which, given the audience, is understandable, but to be able to listen to the screaming, even if just for that last half hour while I clean is sooooo relieving for me. And a lot of hardcore christian bands still do sing about death and hate and all kinds of stuff like that, but they sing about it from a Christian persons standpoint, which really helps to dispell the illusion many people seem to have that Christians are always happy "in out perfect little lives, and we don't have to deal with all the 'bad' stuff everybody else does."

As long as I dont have some guy screaming in a deep voice yelling "JESUS LOVES ME THIS I KNOW, BECAUSE THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO!" then I can deal with it. Its not that I think the message is bad its just I cant stand corney lyrics.

I hate that song soo much!!

Manson has some great tunes but his lyrics can be a bit disturbing at times. I guess that's what he was going for though, so he's accomplished his goal :)

A couple years ago, my church hosted a Christian "battle of the bands" of different Christian bands in the area. Most of them were your typical pop and were utterly horrible. We couldn't help but notice the pack of long haired people in black clothes, smoking cigarettes just outside the doors - half way through, it was their turn up. They were death metal screamers!!! Their buddies were up front headbanging whilst half the crowd stood there a bit shocked - if I hadn't been running the sound-board I'd have been right up front with them! It was great!!

heres a couple songs from living sacrifice..... a metal band with a positive message.... and no you won't find any "jesus loves me this i know" with this band

Bloodwork

A SIMPLE TEST, PROBING LOSS, LOOKING FOR A VEIN
TAPPING ON A GRAVE THEY CALL THEIR OWN
I DESIRE, I INVITE THIS PROCESS, INJECTION BEGIN
BEGIN, BREAK THE SKIN, SALVATION QUICKLY DRIVEN IN
PRIDE IN FRACTURE, IN SUBJECTION
A NEW SUPPLY RUNNING RED WITH PURPOSE
NOTHING LESS THAN FLAWLESS IN DESIGN
SYSTEMATIC IN POSSESSION, IGNITING ALL WITHIN
RUNNING RED WITH PURPOSE
NOTHING LESS THAN FLAWLESS IN DESIGN

4. Awakening

Awakening has taken place in me,
Breathe in the newness of life
Drink freely new wine
Awaken from stagnant,
Passiveness broke free
Constrictive casualness
The dawn has come,
We must move on
Steadfast, faithfulness,
Put off, laziness
Wake up, wake up
Awaken from sleep,
Open your eyes, receive
Healed of crippling lethargy
Our spirits no longer
Reek of sleep
Through prayer we've entered
In the throne room
The will of God
Awaken from stagnant broke free
The dawn has come,
We must move on
Steadfast putoff casual
Wake up, wake up

If you want to download some good shit, and your into the whole hardcore/ metal thing, check out Mortal Treason. Their lead singer Seth Kimbrough is a pro BMX rider and kicks ass. I rembere reading in a magazine that he was in a band....and i never thought anything of it until it showed them doing a show on Props Road Fools 12. I was like, Holy Shit!!! It was awesome, so i downloaded the cd, kept listening to it...i dident realize they were christian for about 2 weeks when i actually started listening to the lyrics. His voice is amazing.
