water pump replacement costs

I have a 94 Accord LX that appears to have a slow leak from the water pump. While doing the brakes one day a little stream started coming from what I think were the weep holes on the water pump. I have to refill the rad about once a week.

I'm going to take it to a shop, but having just moved to south Florida, where shops are a little less than honest, I want to get an idea of how long it "should" take and how much it "should" cost before I let someone touch it after giving me an estimate. Can anyone let me know how much is a reasonable charge and/or time to complete the repair.

Thanks!!!

according to the labor book...you're looking about a 5hr job. i don't know the average labor rate in florida is...but dallas texas is about 70/hr. just call around and ask for an estimate and what they charge per hr. the only additional cost to you would be parts. since your doing your water pump...most mech shops gonna recommend replacing at least the timing belts (timing & balance). they may also tell you to change out the tensioner, drive belts (alt, a/c, p/s) as needed, front seals (cam, crank, balance). it would be a good idea at this time to do the seals...b/c 90-97 accord 4cyl are known to have bad balance shaft seals. there's a kit sold that includes the seal and a retaining bracket. also the valve cover gasket...since the valve cover would have to be at least loosened to remove timing cover. call around local parts store or dealership to get part prices. then add then all up. that should give you a pretty close idea on what it would cost.
