Strange rattling noise

I started getting this strange rattling noise, driving home the other night from work.... It sounds like a "slinky" you know one of those 80's metallic toys, that walks down the stairs.
Anyway...its on the right side....when I wind the window all the way down and then try to listen to it....nothing happens
It sounds like a metallic vibration noise. Sometimes it happens over bumps....sometimes just driving and hear it. It happened a couple of times, when I pressed the brakes on. Was still happening today, but not as much as yesterday.
Anyone got any ideas what it is
Oil seems to be okay...I topped a little bit over, and I checked yesterday...and it was way over..... go figure...why did it show really low last week....same problem you had spunky.

Was the engine hot or cold when you checked it? The B series engines take quite a while for all of the oil to trickle out of the galleries and into the sump.
Oil levels shouldn't be more than 2mm over the top marker - more can cause real issues with pressure in the engine and wear and tear.
Rattle: is it engine or chassis do you think?

this might sound silly, but have you considered the possiblity that your window mechanism could be loose?

Engine was cold when my cousin checked it. Warm when I went home, and checked the stick again, and I topped up, and I started the engine so it could drain down a bit, then checked it and topped a little more.
Few days later.....and its like quite a bit over the 2nd mark.
Don't think its engine rattle...Sounds like something is loose.

Could be the metal that covers the exhaust after the manifold (underneath the front of the car) Mine was loose until a friend tig welded it back on tight.

Stupid rattling is getting worse...especially when its midnight, and I'm leaving work...heading down homebush drive....think it has something to do with front right brake/disc....cause I can hear it rattling and every once in a while I get this screeching noise when I press the brake.....
brakes shouldn't be worn though cause they're only about 6 months old
Have to get my cousin to check it next week.

No, Honda have a reputation for very good quality MANUAL gearboxes. In fact, I know of one that has held together 210% of the original power output for 35000kms. Autos, however are a different story. BUt what kind of loser drives auto anyway?:finger:  :finger:

Its not the transmission....its something to do with the brakes/wheel/suspension on the right front...cause I can hear it squeaking from there....
Perhaps something is scraping against the disc as ocassionally there has been this screeching noise, when I press in the brake...after the vibrating noise I'm getting. Funny how it seems worse, when I'm leaving work at midnight...perhaps the temp being cold to.

I agree with Oz...find a nice deserted field, and start practicing....that's how I started...when I was about 14, doing figure 8's on a grass field

rattling continues...but got a grinding noise...so its the rear brakes.... for a while there I was thinking it was coming from front...think 2 years of listening to our customers made my hearing go wonky :p
Sunroof was sticking out a bit before....fixed now...clip had come off inside.

Sunroof is fixed...I fixed it today....was there with the pliers...squeezing them into the little slot, to try and put clip back. Is fine now :D
Nah....when brakes are worn...brakes are worn....
Its soo annoying though...cause its grinding real bad. Cousin said cause its hit the limiter...so its going to be making a lot of noise. Getting them changed on Saturday....
Its so bad the grinding...about 80% of the time I press the brake in, I hear screeching noise now  Worse than finger nails down a blackboard!!

well...brakes changed....and now the suspension arms have even stopped bumping the exhaust which used to make it rattle every once in a while....maybe when my cousin unjacked the car, it just sat in the right place :D
