99 Blazer won't start - Security Issue

In the morning, I have to go out try to start my Blazer. It turns over but won't start. Security light comes on. I wait 15-20 minutes. Go back and it starts no problem. Any ideas? Any way to bypass security system or is it another problem? My father's a mechanic and he can't figure it out.

I have a 99' with the remote start. There are times the factory security system senses a problem with the remote start. I then need to wait 10 minutes for it to reset. It is a pain sometimes. It seems to trigger a start problem if the doors are locked when I try to remote start it.?

vreeland, you have the notorious GM Passkey failure. You'll have to take it to the dealer and pay $650 for them to replace everything since they do not know what to do with it. Oh, yes this problem will happen again down the road even if it's fixed.

400r, it sounds more like the installers of the RS kinda screwed up or used crappy parts. Older and cheaper bypass kits have this little module where you flip dipswitches to get close to the resistance value you need. Then, you have to turn this potentiometer to dial it in. The problem is that the truck's value can change slightly over time making it to where it won't start.

The problem is usually the Passlock Sensor. It's part of the steering column lock housing. They just wear out, a little quicker if there are a lot of keys on the keyring.

There is a TSB on security system issues for 1998 - 2001 S10s, Sonomas, Blazers, Jimmys, and Bravadas. It covers testing and repair. If anyone wants it, send your Email address to me in a PM and I will email it to you. It is in PDF format so you need Adobe Acrobat. (almost everyone has it, if not you can download it for free.)

Yeah well the TSB only is nice if it's under warranty.

yeah, the problem with a tsb is that it only informs the shops of the problem, the shops can still charge an arm and a leg for the repair :(
