Oil Question

Today I was over at my friends house and we were changing the oil on his 93 Maro. He was opening the new oil bottle and dropped the whole foil seal into that bottle. So we put a piece of screen over the bottle and poured the oil in. The screen didn't catch the foil seal. How bad is this going to be on his engine. Shouldn't the foil heat up and melt?

it might block the oil, but I dont know, i'd try to get it out as quickly as possible though.

some screen huh?
the foil seal should not hurt the car. it will not melt... take another seal and put it in a pot of water and put that into your oven and heat it to about 400 degrees. it should fold up into a little ball. it won't get into the oiling system because of the filter on the oil pickup and the oil filter itself.
But you should take your valve cover off and pull it out if it's still on the head, which it probably is. Maybe over an extended period of time it decomposes due to heat?? who knows?!? take it out if you can.

Well it wasn't on the screen and we cut the empty oil bottle in half to check and see if it was in there.
instantkevin- I am kind of confused on your post, you say it should get stuck in the oil filter but then you said he should take off the valve covers? Hopefully it will just get caught in the filter.

Hopefully it will just get caught in the filter.
It won't, it is sitting under the valve cover, probably too big yet to go down the oil drain back hole...hope it isn't plugging it up and causing oil starvation in the engine.
