Problems starting '98 Megane

Hi All,
I've got a '98 Megane which i'm now having difficulty starting. I took it out Sunday without any problems at all. Went to start it Monday night and it wouldn't go. The starter motor turns the engine over but no signs of ignition. This went on for about 10 minutes until the battery was nearly dead then all of a sudden it came to life. I got to the corner and it stalled again, got it going again after much cranking and drove straight back home.
Tried it agian tonight and the problem is still there. It eventually started after about 10 minutes of turning over with no sign of ignition. Drove round the block to warm it up a bit with no problems. Turned it off and tried to start again but it wouldn't go so i've given up for now.
It doesn't fire until it's cranked for ages, then it starts no problem. So i'm thinking fuel supply or spark? I've done a bit of searching and read everything from an earth strap to the flywheel sensor connector and i'm a little lost. Has anyone had problems similar to this? Any theories?
Thanks
Jono.
