91 Park Ave not starting

I recently was given a 91 park avenue that had been sitting for about 1 year. When I got it it drove fine for about a week. Then after the second fill of gas about 2 hours later, it died. It started again after about 5 min. Then later that day, it did it again, and yep, 5 min later it started again. Then I was on the freeway and it just died without any warning and wont start again at all now. When I try to start it, its like it wants to turn but wont. I replaced the ignition coil, plugs, wires, oil, and fuel filter and still nothing. Someone said it could be the fuel pump or the Crankshaft position sensor. Do either of those make sense, and what are the "symptoms" if you will, that can determine if it is one of those two problems? Or, could it be something different like a clogged gas line from the rusty tank or something like that? Anything would help. Thanks.

If it wants to turn but won't, it is most likely related to the battery (weak) or the starter solenoid. What made you think it was all the other stuff? If a car won't turn over replacing a fuel pump won't do anything. From your driving experience, I have somebody check the battery first, could be a short in there, or not holding the charge. How old is it?

1.Does it turn over when it refuses to start?
2.When it dies does it sputter, or just turn off?
3.If it turns over when refusing to start do you have spark? Are the injectors getting signal? Is there fuel getting to the cylinder?
When you find what is missing (spark or fuel) you will be on your way to a solution.
A dead battery(loss of voltage) is not the issue here, a dead battery would not cause it to die on the highway then restart after five minutes. Check for a loose ground (this could be a loose battery cable). Fuel pumps and crank position sensors do not usually heal themselves after five minutes. So I also doubt this is the problem. We will need more info to solve this one.
Good Luck.

It died suddenly on the hiway, without any warning and now wont start at all. Before that, the same day, it died intermittently but started again. I bought a brand new battery the same day I got the car. Could it be the VATS system? Dont know, but I'm going to check the igntion switch just to rule that out. And the engine turns a few times but nothing. I think it may be the fuel pump, but if its the VATS, that cuts the fuel pump out right? thanks for the responses. Any other suggestions?

Ok.
If it ain't the battery (would have been to easy any ways) , than it can't be the VATS either, cause it wouldn't turn the engine at all. To check for fuel, check the pressure relief valve at the rails.Press the schrader valve in if you got fuel spraying out after you tried to crank it, and it turned then you have fuel. Before you attempt to change the fuel pump, check under the right side of the car, near the right rear wheel, there are about 4 thin wires some go to the fuel pump, mine broke causing the fuel pump not to work and not showing any codes either, the fuel pump just didn't get any power, as soon as I fixed it, my car ran again...As a matter of fact, the symptoms you are describing, is exactly what happened to me, and I have a 91 also. It seems to me that those wires are prone to breakage, check them out, you might be surprised...

Hey thanks for the help. It was the CKP (Cranshaft Sensor) that was wrong. I changed it and now it runs perfectly.
