Mustang reliability

I'm planning to buy a 99-02 Ford Mustang Gt, i'm going to drive it only summer, like 8000 km by year, and i would like to know if mustang reliability is as bad as everybody say ?

Nah there not Lude. Ive yet to have a problem with mine. GeT an 02 GT

any car is reliable with few exceptions. all you have to do is be good about changing oil, coolant, and other important fluids, keep the engine bay clean (to protect the wiring and other things), and keep up with regular maintenance items.

just curious... whos everybody. mustangs as far as i know have always been known to be pretty reliable. i have a 00 v6 and i have had no problems at all with mine ( no repairs at all), and the gts are usually built better than the v6, so you should be fine.

been running my 95 GT for like 2 years now with no issues whatsoever. In fact the car has taken way more of a beating that I expected it to take, it has surprised me.

Bad? the Mustang was the Most reliable car from a US manufacturer in 2004. That rating was from Consumer reports.

And who is everyone? If the mustang was not reliable, it wouldn't be around. If the mustang had lots of issues, it wouldn't be around. Ford Tried to kill off the Mustang and make it a front wheel drive car, but the people spoke and then the PROBE was born. The Probe was suspossed to be the new mustang.

If the mustangs was crap, and could not hold their own, it would have be retired from market, just look at the Camaro/Firebird's......... they disappeared from the market because they couldn't maintain the sales to keep them alive. Those two cars was the last of the real competition to the Mustang. Nothing else is in it's market, not from imports or other domestics.

How many cars do you know of that car be bought at the dealer, taken to a autocross course, then to a 1/4 drag strip, then beat on at the streets from light to light against other vehicle, and still be a daily driver and handle that abuse all the time?

How many cars do you know out there that can have a Chassis designed in 1979 and still be competative all the way to it's retirement 25 years later in 2004? NONE of the other car makers in the world had a chassis in production that long except for VW in the Beetle.

Also the MUSTANG has the biggest aftermarket and fan base in the world and 1 in 9 modified vehicles in the US is a Mustang. EXCLUDING TRUCKS/SUV's the only other vehicle to outsell the Mustang durring the entire automotive history is the VW Beetle. The last VW Beetle (No. 21,529,464) was made in 08/30/2003 in Puebla Mexico.

Who ever is telling you that mustangs have issues and are not reliable are full of crap. Just look around the streets and count the all the mustangs you see. Every generation of mustangs have a strong amount of them on the roads. Even from the 80's when imports started to pound it's way into the US market, you still alot more 80's Fox body mustangs than other 80's domestics and imports. It not like you see a ton of Excells or Geo Storms, Celica's or even as many 80's Honda Preludes & civic's as you do Fox body mustangs. And the 94-04 Mustangs are even more reliable than those......

Just gonna repeat what everybody else has been saying. I own a '73 Mustang Mach I, and it is the most reliable car that I own. My family owns quite a few cars and when one goes down we ALWAYS have my Mach I to rely on. My Mach I is 31yrs old and is more reliable than my '03 Mazda!

I have an 86 GT that I bought new (7km on the odometer) and up until 2 years ago it was my everyday vehicle.

260000 Km and the only things I had to replace other than the standard maintenace items are the water pump, radiator and a head gasket (at 150000). Hell I am still on my original clutch.

Whoa, Silver, lol. Hes a honda fan, let him be. Its ok if he had a mustang he would be one of those people you see in ditches because he tried to rip the e brake around a corner. Preludes are even cheesier built than any mustang ive seen. The chassis suck (even the new ones mind you) and the whole engine compartment design just doesnt cut it. Im glad mine burned down. It was worth watching.

Not a Grandma driver.........Went through about 7 sets of tires.

Maybe my clutch lasts because I know how to drive a standard.

Sounds like he just never tried 2nd gear dumps and only burned out around corners. or fully engaged. Those things are pretty strong though.
