It will still work, just not from as far away, same with a detector. If its raining or snowing it wont pick up a radar signal until its a little stronger.

It depends on how much money you want to spend, i spent $400 for my valentine 1. It's repaid itself time and time again. For most it would be overkill. It has picked up radar just over 2 miles away on more than one occasion.

If you're speeding in the rain or snow you really are trying to prove darwin correct.

I rode with a few cops from around here so I could get an idea of how the system works, Thier radar get wierd readings when they use it while driving next to a train and in the rain...not sure about snow though. Once you get an alert you have more than enough time to slow down

Ive got a cobra. Ive had it for about 2-3 years and have only been pulled over for speeding once. It works well enugh for me.

I would have to say that it can effect the readings a little but not much.... and yes if it is raining or snowing and you are speeding...DUH!!! not the brightest thing to be doing...
The newest lasers can catch you up to 3 miles away... they made them better so they have time to finish eating their donuts before you go past them......
I had a solo s2 and it had saved my ass more times than I could remember!!!! and it had no cords.. battery operated!! very nice

I actually had a detector (Cobra I think) when I had my 72 Pontiac LeMans. Sold that in December of 03 and got my Eclipse and I had JUST bought the detector and when I went to go put it into my Eclipse, the guy who owned it before did something to the cigarette lighter thing and so, no power=no radar detector...Got busted a couple days later doing 57 in a 30. Thank God I live next door to a State Trooper...Mowed his lawn a couple times and he saved me a couple hundred bucks and my license

I've got a cobra too. Must be cuz they are one of the cheaper brands, but still are decent at performance. Saved me more times than I can remember. I've only been pulled over once and got a ticket, and my radar was screaming the whole way, but I didn't hear it because at the time I had 2 12" subs pounding. LOL. Shit happens. I have noticed that in shitty weather it isn't as accurate. Mine also has a lot of false alarms, and I wish I could turn off the ever annoying X band.

P.S. Something else kinda funny, when I go through the super wal-mart parking lot, it says there is a train coming or something. haha. Laughed pretty hard the first time it said that.

i would rather have a cord than have to buy batteries. But thats just me. The one time ive been pulled over for speeding since i bought it was for 87 in a 60. Trooper let me go with a warning.

My spyder has one built in from the dealer. Unfortuneatly the original owner didn't know how to use it. So I've been trying to find cops speed timing to figure out which setting is city and which is highway. It's really nice detector is built onto front license plate (looks like it's lighted), and then the switch is where my power mirror button would be if I had one...

Wouldn't you want the detector higher up rather than the license plate? It's really just an antenna which would receive signal better being higher in the air. And what about radar behind you?

It seems to pickup everything fine here in the valley. Even when I'm behind other cars I still get a pretty advanced warning when it's switch to yellow which I call highway mode due to lack of documentation...

As for behind you if you already passed them and they hit your car with a radar well your screwed. And if they are already behind you and hitting other people they most likely aren't going at you.. I completely see your point and the reasons why you might want it behind you though.

It came built in and it works good enough. I don't speed that often and when I do if I get caught eh I shouldn't have been speeding.

I see what you mean, I have seen though times where, especially at night, they just come out from nowhere behind you on the highway mostly. My detector is mounted high up on the windshield and it has 2 radar antennas, front and back. I used to own a cobra too and it worked fine except for a few times. I've never been pulled over for anything and many times i attribute that to my radar detector. If the cop uses instant on radar once before he hits you with it the you'd want a detector that can pick that first signal up. In my cases thats happened numerous times. I don't beleive my old cobra would've picked up that first signal.

But as with anything, you wanna be smart about it. I only speed on open highway during the day when its most visible

I have an Escort 3500. Its awesome, saved me plenty of times. I only got a ticked once with it. I was in New Jersy on the NJ Turnpike. I was doing 110 in a 65. It was like 2:00am and the closes car to me was like 300 feet behind me. I think when he saw me comming he picked up his radar gun and clocked me. My Radar wit crazy all of a sudden, but it was too late... Alteast he only got me at 100 instead of 110

Get the Passport 8500 X50! That's the one I have. Best detector in the world. No seriously, its been tested by Automobile, Motor Trend, SpeedZones, and RadarTest and they all say it's the best. I picked it up for about $250 on ebay.

I had a regular Cobra one and that damn thing may have had something wrong with it because some times it wouldn't even go off but sometimes it would. Sometimes it would throw the train signal thing and I would be out in the middle of nowhere not even close to a train. So I sold it because who knows if it ever really saved me because...well I never got pulled over when I had it if that makes any sense. So it must have saved me a couple of times but I just would like to think that it sucked and I needed to get rid of is so I sold it for 10 bucks to a friend of mine. He needed one because he just bought a I don't know what year Pontiac Grand Prix, the Daytona 500 duplicate, 3.8L Supercharged. Pretty sweet car and he loves to go fast so he needed one I would post a picture but I don't know how, haha. I know that nobody cares about that car but I thought that I would share anyways.

Actually that car is pretty sweet. I was debating buying a 99 Grand Prix GTP, not the daytona edition. I test drove one, and that car has some mad balls for regular ass car. Ended up buying the eclipse instead. Much better looking, and was in better shape. Wish it had the power of the GTP though.

Actually that car is pretty sweet.

He loves the hell out of the car but when he bought it he only paid $3,600 for it and it had 117k I think on it. When he went to get the car inspected the comp said that the check engine light was on, but it wasn't in the car. So for some reason I don't know about they took the dash apart and found out that the Check Engine light wires had been cut clean, talk about some shaddy shit done to the car. Turns out the Torque converter was dicking up so he had that fixed done on the warrenty by the dealer. Also the dealer claims no responsibility for the cut wires, maybe they didn't cut them but who knows who did. The car runs great now so he's happy.

I had a 98 Grand Prix SE. I always saw black GTP's and I was so jealous.
