I dont know if anyone can help me. but im going to throw this your way. I want to build a frankinstine Engine.. I dont plan to just jump out and do this in one day. I know that is going to take .. maby years.. I just need to get a start. I dont know where to begin. I know it his a b18 w/ b16 header. I think. if anyone knows where I could get some information on doing this. please push me in the correct direction.. thanks.

lol. I think you mean b18 block with b16 head, also know as ls/vtec. just type in 'lsvtec' in the search on this forum, or try honda-tech.com

I ran across this site < http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0411scc_hybrid/ > Im just a little confused. does this tell me how to build the beast.?

Seems to tell the basics... This is no simple swap tho... And no offence meant at all, but someone who dosnt know the difference between a 'head' (short for cylinder head, which is the top end of the engine, it handles the intake of air and fuel, and then expells it thru the exhaust) and 'header' (is the first component in your exhaust system attached to the block, that expelled air and fuel mixture goes thru this first), has ALOT more to learn, before even thinking about this... So my recomendations, is just research, research, and research some more... Maybe get some hands on experience...

i agree. thats a little bit much for a beginer project. Not saying it can't be done like you said if you spend a year or so on it. But i have heard of vtec heads on non vtec blocks in some frankenstiens to be hard on low end bearings around the crank. so once you know what that means you'll be a lot closer to gettin something done.

None taken.. I have a little hands on exp. but not alot. basicly if something brakes and I know what it is I can replace it with no issue. and im pritty good at body work. other then that im kinda in the dark. Thats why im not expecting just to jump in to this. I know im going to have to do some reserch thanks why im getting your advice on some sites, book, mags. to check out.. thanks guys.. J

search the forum, hondatech.com, and yahoo and google. There are some honda books on amazon.com but not sure if there are any on frankenstiens, havn't checked so check that out. But just type in everything you think is related to you as you go and see what you come up with

Well, let me tell you what is going on with my car. I have a 90 Si HB and when I got it, the person that had it before me really messed some stuff up. I had to replace the intire front end. some wireing and engine work. and I still have a short, well a drain on the battery somewhere. anyway.. the guy put a B15B2 engine in it. not the stock Si engine. and im having some issues with diffrent shit going out becuse of it. Im wanting to do a swap so that at leaste when I go to the track I can keep up with the guys that are about the same HP. well the HP that it is suppose to have. Im really thinking of doing a B16 or just a straght B18 to start off with. if I could get ahold of all the stuff for a B18C5 I would be In heaven but I really dont see that happing.. I just want my car to go as fast or faster then it originaly was. not slower. that and I just need something to work on. I would like to build one in the future... something for me and my son to work on. but he is 3 now so I have some time to plan. you know. for now I just want it to go a little faster and get an engine that I can actualy do somehting with,

In that case, your best bet is an LS engine (B18), its the basis for the LS/VTEC, has gobs of torque, decent HP, it just dosnt have the best revability (this is where the VTEC head comes in), but it would be great in a light CRX/Civic EF... And has plenty of potential for the future, use that for your base, and then build upto the LS/VTEC aka Frankenstein... :bigthumb:

And best of luck teaching and learning with your son! I wish I had the same interest in cars I do now when my Dad was alive... :frown: But back then I didnt have any interest in the mechanical aspect... And he could have taught me so much... I just didnt wanna hear it form some reason...

So your saying I should drop a b18 in to it and then when I get good at the building thing then worry about the Frankinstine?

I'd second that. Other than a mount a kit and the correct shift linkage, I think the only other thing you would have to worry about is wiring (if any). I would suggest making sure you get a cable tranny. And as stated, later you can do the VTEC conversion. Quick question, you said that he had put a B15B2. I'm assuming you mean D15B2, but did he leave the Si intake manifold?

I'd recommend getting the B16A swapped into your car for now, and go from there. Then you can seperatley purchase an LS or CRV block and build it from there. You're going to want to build the block to handle the power and higher reving, so having it in your car at the time (LS swap) probably wouldn't be the best idea for convenience.

As been said, DO LOOOOTS OF SEARCHING on honda-tech, google, here, and so on and so forth, you can't know too much.

Good luck.

I got under the car just a few sec ago becuse my exaust was hinging down.. I tryed to pull it up but 2 issues the shift linkage was in the way and I couldnt shit into reverse and the rods that the rubber things go to didn't line up. so I think when the guy did the motor swap he changed the exaust too. :-P

That is a fine engine....

yeah before doing anything you need to ask yourself a few questions

1. what do I want it for ?
2. what kind of timeframe am i looking to have this in by ?
3. Turbo, SC, nitrous or N/A ?
4. what do I have ?
5. what can I get ?

1-- daily driver, weekend racer, will determin on how you build it.
2-- not being in a rush is a good thing this allows you to take your time and make sure everything is done right... on the othe hand if you are in a rush it's can cost you more and not turn out as nice as it could be.
3-- do you want Boost... if so Sleeve the block... or buy a Dart Block.

anyone looking at a LSvtec I usualy get them to look around for a B18C Block, since it's already plummed for Vtec, you don't need to run external oil lines, if you want Displacment get the 18C sleeved with 84-85mm sleeves, that will make a high displacment powerhouse and if it's mated with good internals (eagle rods, forged pistons) this will take abuse all day long and smile.

Bottom line research is KEY when building a motor... I am on 8 months on my B16 and I am almost done but I still had some last minute changes.
