Can someone explain how this possibly makes more HP??

Don't do it, that defector is there for a reason.

With it removed, it will lean out a couple of cylinders.

Many people have had problems after removing it.

That's why it should be coupled with the EGR mod, prevents the lean out.... This has been widely discussed on the other boards...

what is the purpose of this deflector plate? I had to remove mine because it had warped and was forcing my TB to remain open at all times and making my engine rev to 4000 rpm as soon as i turned it on, a real drag when driving a manual
