Motor problems with a 91' Tercel.....?

I'm just trying to find out what the most common problems are with the 1.5L engine in a 1991 Tercel. I just bought one with 62k, a replacement engine is currently in it as the original was run low on oil (junk). I don't know yet how many miles are on the motor but I was told by the owner that it has a blown head gasket (which is what he was told by his mechanic). He said you can drive it about 50 miles before it overheats and then you also have to add coolant.

Any information is greatly appreciated.........

Thanks

Valve guide seals are a problem but I just keep adding oil to it and it keeps on trucking. 192K and still going strong.

None with mine and I have 192K on it. It has been a good little engine aside from the oil use and having to clean the EGR out every 25k miles
