yah call me a moron, but most every part for a b16a1 are the same as the a2/a3's correct?? i mean my cap wasn't the same, don't ask why i have no idea..... but is there a site for part cross referencing??

Your a morron!
what is your engine numbe by the way?
That will tell me a lot about where it came from. and whats differnt.

They are all the same, sort of.
Theres a number stamped into the block under the b16a.
If you post it I will you if it came from an integra, a 4g SiR or a 5g or 6g SiR, or even if its a USDM engine.
That will then tell us whats differnt and whats the same.

It seems like the 1G B16As don't carry all parts the same as the later ones. Throttle bodies and EACV units for example are different, I had issues with the dizzy cap. That's all I've come across so far.

i've actually been wondering the same thing. i just got a usdm b16a gen 1 engine. now, when i looked for the internals most of them were listed as for the b16a but it called for a 96+ si. i would think most of the parts would fit right but i guess there is a diff between the engines, the gen 1 has 160hp & 111ft.lbs while the gen 2 has 170hp & 113ft.lbs. now i know that isnt a hell of a difference...but i dont want to spend say a buck fifty on a fuel rail that is said to be used on a 92-95 civic if it isnt going to fit.
i have like a week before it comes back from the machine shop and i want to start building right away so i have to order this stuff quick..

no dude they all have the same power, besides the euro ones, sissys lol.... i'm just trying to find out what doesn't fit from a2 (99-00si) and a3 (94-97 del sol vtec)...... i'm about to blow more money on plug wires (or leads for the aussies) and i'm just double checking.

Actualy moron :D (hey you said it!) there are 4 differnt power levels.
150hp in the European VTi
157-160hp in the JDM 4g SiR (its ment to be only 157, but according to guys here at honda its actualy more like 160+hp :D)
160hp in the USDM Del Sol and Si
170hp in the JDM 5g and 6g SiR
All the engines have a differnt CR and so must have differnt pistons
The engines made after 92 also have a differnt ECU.
And all have differnt cams, with the exception of the 150hp euro engine and 160hp JDM engine, which might or might not have the same cams.
ALL BOTTOM END PARTS ARE INTERCHANGABEL. Thats the block, cranks, rods and pistons. Black crank and rods are all the same.
ALL THE HEADS ARE INTERCHANGABLE. Thats the head, cams, valve gear. Heads valves and valve train is also all the same.
Its the rest of the basic bolt on the outside crap thats differnt.
Things like exhasut manifolds, dizzys, VTEC solonoids etc.
Now all these parts are interchangable, but might be differnt to what you already have.
Regarding the dizzy I believe there are only 2 differnt types, but both take the same cap and rotor.
The later 96 on engines including the USDM engines have a differnt dizzy and VTEC solonoid, they are interchangable with eariler ones, but you need both.
Now I am very confused by you not being able to use the later cap and rotor on your car, after all both Bracer and I bolted it straight in, and Setanta got it to work after making a small notch in the cap.
This means there might acutaly be 3 or more differnt dizzys.
SO COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME YOUR ENGINE NUMBER!
then I can work out when your engine was made, and what model car it came out in.

The EDM Civic 5G VTi and Del Sol VTi have a 160hp B16A vs 170hp for the JDM market. EDM 4G VT and CRX VT have a 150hp B16A1 vs 160hp JDM SiR. The export markets just get the "detuned" versions of the B16A
which in my believe is only due to different ignition timing and because of Octane ratings. The only reason the USDM market doesn't have a 150hp B16A is because they never had a 4G/CRX SiR, sissys :finger: lol..

Thats true BUT our rexes and the 4th gens are lighter than the EDM and JDM versions. SO when we swap it then we are a bit faster than your version;)

Actually, if you look at the geometry of the SiR setups and the front swaybar I have a feeling the SiRs still have the advantage ;) Our cars were designed for the B16A - motor location is slightly different to the SiR disadvantaged (stuffed if I know why though) :p

anyway, doing the maths converting the lbs to Kgs, Im affraid to say that there is no weight advantage to the USDM civics, unless you have a totaly stripped out DX.
But then you get all the crapy brakes and suspension to go with it.
And we can simply do a swap into a crapy 13x and have the same weight. :finger:
I do feel a little sorry for the Euro guys though, getting everything but the hp.

Yeh the reason i said that we have the weight advantage is because we don't have the power options. Like you guys have power windows, locks and sun roof and its also a glasstop. I have an si and the only power option is my sun roof. SO therefore you guys are a bit heavier than USDM 4th gen and crx:) Moppie and Setanta ...i don't really know much about your guys suspension so i can't really say anything about it. :D

strong enough? or do they just lack enough hp that they dont go fast enough to need the govener! :p
Besides 190kph is more than fast enough in a little Civic, They top out at 242kph redlined in 5th, but at about 200kph they become dangerously areodynamicaly unstable, and can atuctualy leave the ground but not land on all 4 wheels. :D

Damn, sucks to be the only Euro guy here.... :D
but seriously, I strongly disagree with you Moppie. If you live very close to the German autobahns, which are long stretched and have no speedlimit it is actually nice to go over 200kph once in a while. OK you don't need it and you won't miss it if you couldn't but it is a nice thing to do, and on a open autobahn with no traffic, relatively safe.
And believe it or not, our cars CAN handle those speeds, I topped out at 230kph (on the speedo) and with 220kph I had to pass cars and I switched lanes a number of times and the car was stable as hell. I have a vid of it on my site at the download section if you don't believe it, check it out.
Again, top speed isn't important, but saying that they become areodynamicaly dangerous above 200kph is just not true.
ok, enough fighting, I admit, JDM SiR's are kinda nice too

Interesting. And I do believe you, besides it not like I can go out and prove you wrong with my car, not only can I not afford to get a piggy back to remove the limiter, but there simply isnt a single stretch of raod anywhere in NZ thats is smoth enough to do that kind of speed safely. :D
However I have hit the speed limiter two or three times now, and the car was certianly still quite stable.

Hi, im new to this board. I own a EDM Civic Vtec. Bracer, ive seen your site, its cool, and the vid download is good. I like to show my friends with their crappy rs turbos what the mighty Civic can achieve.
I have a couple of questions that I hope you guys can help me on:
1: My civic is 150hp. JDM civic is 160hp. How do i increase mine to 160hp with out spending loads of ££'s
2. Is there any difference between the EDM rear spoiler & the JDM rear spoiler (apart from the led in the JDM one)?
3. Any tips on inreasing BHP?
Cheers,
Robin.

Hey Welcome to AF! :)
Finally some Euro help ;)
1: That will not be very easy. The JDM is 160ps which is ~158hp. The difference: the head is the same but the VT does not have a knock sensor. The EDM VT has a different ignition timing and is detuned because of Octane ratings (JDM 98RON, EDM 95RON).
I don't know all the things you need but you do need the ECU, that's for sure.
2: The JDM spoiler is bigger and has a 30cm LED.
3: Well, the usual I/H/E, you can upgrade it with ITR/CTR parts. And for real power a Turbo/Supercharger is possible.
4: Take it easy dude, they have swaps ;)
