wont turn over

wzup everybody. i just got a new clutch installed in and everthing seemed to work fine except a little grinding but the mechanic said it was normal cause i was low on tranny oil.( he didnt have the pump to refill it) so i took it home and the next day reverse went out, i thought it was cause of the oil so i took it to the shop and had it topped off. the reverse still was out. so on my way to get it back to the mechanic. the lights and wipers flickered. then it shut off. i cant get it to turn over, but it sounds like it is really close to. why? did thew mechanic do anything wrong? i thought it was the alternator but my radio and lights still work. battery and starter are new. any help is appreciated
