So I'm first test driving the CRX, and I give it gas nice and esy making sure it's not sounding like a bomb. It sounded fine and was really responsive. So the next time I took off, I gave it a decint amount of throttle and it sounded almost like when you were a kid and put a baseball card rubbing the spokes to sound like a motor cycle, just with the car it sounded like a real big baseball card and more metalic. I told the guy who was selling it to us what the sound was, so we went into the service building and put it on the lift, we looked around, and checked things like the heat shields, I think thats what they were, and he checked some bolt to make sure they were tight enough, and everything was fine. by the way the reson we were at a service shop, is he works at the big Honda dealer in Elyria, Jack Matia Honda. so he's pretty knowledgable, and he works with 4th generation hondas and sells them, since gas prices latly. so he knows their works, and he didn't know. Any ideas?

Im about 99.9% positive its your heat shields on all the way back on your exhuast piping. I had to remove mine about a year and a half ago because it was rattling so bad at around 2500-redline. It sounded horrible, it was so loud man. But all it takes, is one of two things. If you like physical labor, get some sheet metal cutters and start wrenching away at that shit, and really tear into it. If you dont like manual labor, simply take it to that shop you mentioned, and have your friend use a welder and melt all the hinges and bolts off and it should all slide right out. Its that simple, I did it, like I said, a while ago and Ive had no problems since. Youll be fine bro.

i had this problem once when i hit about 3k...it ended being inside my exhaust, like right after the cat converter, that glasspack looking
thingy, the stuff inside of it fell apart, i replaced it with a catback exhaust, no more noise

is the engine knocking?
it's definatly not knocking at all, I think it is the heat shields, and it does start around 2500 when I drove it today. I think I will go with the manual labor idea and tear it out, thanks man, but I hope it's nothing else

Its probably just the heat shields like everyone said.
Unless its god a really bad case of rod knock or piston slap. Did you check the oil in it and maybe do a compression test?

well the oil is low... yeah not cool at all knowing I bought it from a guy who services hondas all the time, thats a smack in the face. but I added up some oil, so I will see if that helps, but I really think it is the heat shields. thanks for all the help

Most of the time with our cars, theyre tougher than shit to unbolt. Usually rusted out or heat torqued on bro...I tried it, it was wayyyy too tough. Couldnt do shit, but you had th right idea...now only if it were a newer car...

the car was mostly garage kept, do you think I stand a chance? also the sound isn't coming from the rear I don't think, but would it still sound in the front if it is the sheilds. On my 93 ford ranger the heat sheilds were rusting apart and they sounded the same as these do, so I think it definatly is the sheilds

Alright, i got the heat sheild off this morning, but it's snowing like crazy out, so I proboble wont know for a day or so if the noise is gone. they were easy to get off, but is their anything else I should do since I took them off? even if it's picky stuff like spray a little rustolium in the holes to keep them from rusting or anything?
