Gas Light and Open Door Indicator Problem

Hi All,
So, I have a stock 2001 GLS New Beetle and all of the sudden the low gas light indicator and the open door indicator have stopped working. I took it to the dealer and they said it would cost 90 bucks per problem to diagnose. That seemed a little much to find a problem they may already know the answer for. Has anyone else heard of these two things being related at all? Any help would be great.

You need a new instrument cluster, the gas light is part of the instrument cluster on a beetle.

If the door open indicator doesnt work when ANY door is open its the instrument cluster.
If the door open indicator doesnt work when the driver door is open then the driver door latch needs to be replaced.(common failure of microswitch in door latch assembly.)
