My wife came home yesterday wuth the lamp on. I discovered some SOB had siphoned gas from her (in the Doc office parking lot handicapped space!!) and left the gas cap off/loose. I took care of that piece so how come still a lamp? Too much of a coincidence to be something else!!

Probably just a sensor... I know it happens when the gas cap is loose. If after tightened and re-started, it is still on... try fueling up. See what happens after that...
I had my light come on due to the cap being on improperly. (NJ Full Service Sucks) It reset after retightening and I think 2 or 3 starts and driving.
Hope it clears up

Just as you predicted! About three or four re-starts did it. Now how does the computer know what happened to the stolen gas (for range cals, etc)?! ;-)

Its based on mileage estimates and quantity of fuel in the tank. Less fuel, less mileage!
